Notes - The marriage ceremony of Eve Hoover Philips to Sampson Violett was in Johnstown, Ohio and the two credible witnesses were Major Eli A. Pratt, a Revolutionary comrade of Sampson Violett and William Duke a nephew of Eve Hoover Philips. William Duke was the 3rd son of John Duke and Catherine Hoover Duke, a sister of Eve Hoover Philips, 10 years her senior, who was born in 1776. At the time of Eve’s marriage to Sampson Violett, she w as about 29 years old. Sampson, born in 1761 would be about 54 years of age. Where Sampson and Eve lived after their marriage is only tentatively suggested by a deed for a property to Sampson Violett at Galena, Ohio, Delaware County in 1817. This could have been Eve’s home when Richard Philips lived. At least in the search for any real assurance, the drive was made to Galena and a family name of Philips now live there on the place and is undoubtedly a descendent of a branch of the same family. There was still a story about "Sampson" building the "Chimney" which still stood at one end of the large room in 1941.

"Sampson Violett, married first in 1810 to Sarah Boydston in Adams Co., Ohio but had no children. Sarah Violett probably died in Adams County, Ohio. It is to be noted that he came to Adams County, Ohio with his brother John and family, as the land allotted them for their respective services in the War of the Revolution was located in this area. John's wife Mary Violett also died in Adams County, and it is apparent that both brothers became acquainted with young widows (who were sister-in-laws) Constance (DuTrembly) Philips and Eve(Hoover) Philips) the first named , John married, and the second name, Sampson married, at the age of 54 years,
Sampson Violett, married Eve (Hoover) Philips, December 15, 1815 at Johnstown, Ohio (Licking County). She was the widow of Richard Philips, and the daughter of Henry and Eve (Henlein) Hoover; her parents were of German-Swiss stock (Huber, pronounced common1y as Hoover)."
